POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT


ASSISTANT FEDERAL DEFENDER


            The Office of the Federal Defender for the District of Minnesota is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Federal Defender. Assistant Federal Defenders provide legal representation to indigent persons charged with federal criminal offenses at both the district court and appellate levels.


            Qualified applicants must have a commitment to the representation of indigent persons in addition to excellent writing, legal research and advocacy skills. Applicants must also possess the ability to communicate effectively with clients, witnesses, staff, colleagues, and other individuals that they will come into contact with as part of their employment. Criminal trial experience is strongly preferred, but not required. In addition, experience in federal court, as well as working knowledge of the federal sentencing guidelines and federal criminal law are also preferred.


            Qualified applicants must be admitted to practice law and be a member in good standing of a state bar. In addition, applicants must possess at least three years of post-law school experience. This is a full-time position with federal benefits and salary based on qualifications and experience. The selected candidate will be subject to a background check as a condition of employment.
